Fayetteville, NC - Tuesday night marked the first of back to back games for Hollins against USA South competition. A trip to Methodist got the week started before Hollins prepares to play host to Averett University later in the week.
The Monarchs jumped on their visitors with a quick, 8-0, run to start the game. Hollins began to rally, and after a Nicolette Valencia three pointer, Hollins had completed a 13-0 run of their, leading to a 14-12 lead after the first quarter. Methodist would once again build an advantage before seeing Hollins come back to take a two point lead late. A Monarch bucket in the closing seconds of the half would knot the score, 24-24, going into the break.
Jewellanna Parfitt scored to open the second half but the Hollins lead would be short lived. Methodist would slowly gain control of the game and pushed their lead to double digits for the first time, 43-33, with 1:43 left in the period. As the clock hit 0:00, the home team enjoyed a 46-34 lead going into the final frame. The two teams traded baskets throughout the final quarter with Methodist holding on for a 62-50 non-conference victory.
Parfitt posted a game high 17 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Sally Sroge finished with 10 points while Valencia added nine. Porsha Waddey led Hollins with eight boards.
Jalisia Campbell registered a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Christian Sanders led Methodist with 14 points and Lillian Geehring scored 10.
Hollins will host Averett University on Thursday at 7:00pm.
