LaGrange, GA - After opening the season with five consecutive home games, the Hollins lacrosse team kicked off a three game road trip over their Spring Break. Hollins first stop on their road tour would be in Georgia against LaGrange on Tuesday afternoon.
The home standing Panthers started the afternoon with four straight scores to take the lead. Allie Helmbrecht, Hollins leading scorer, took advantage of a free position attempt to get the visitors on the board. However, LaGrange would take control of the game and enter the halftime break after scoring 11 of the next 12 goals. In the second frame, Hollins began to find her legs and spend more quality time in the Panthers zone. Hollins would play their hosts to a virtual tie, 5-4, in the second half, but couldn't put any sort of dent in the deficit. As the final horn sounded, Hollins was unable to start their road trip with a victory, falling to the Panthers, 21-6.
Helmbrecht finished the afternoon with four goals on her team high seven shots. Hope Shaw made the most of her three attempts, netting a pair of goals. Shaw secured five draw controls while picking up a pair of ground balls and causing one of LaGrange's five turnovers. Leemu Jackson added two ground balls and a caused turnover with keeper Delaney Waller registering six saves.
Davida White and Madeline Lacavera each tallied four scores to lead the Panthers. Lydia Subat and Sharity Bayerlein added three goals apiece and Eva Tallent led the defense with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Hollins will take a day to travel before facing Montreat College on Thursday afternoon. The game will draw at 5:30 in Black Mountain, NC.
