Hollins Jumps On Spirits Early

Event: Lacrosse - Hollins at Salem College (Winston-Salem, NC)

The lead: The Hollins lacrosse team looked to run their mid-season win streak to three in a row when they traveled to take on Salem College. The Green and Gold used a 6-0 run to start the game as they took control early and cruised to the win.

The result: Hollins 18-5

How it happened: A 6-0 run in the game's first five minutes gave Hollins a big early lead. Salem would break the run and looked to find a rhythm on the offensive end of the field. Despite five scores by the home team, Hollins dominated the first half, 28-7 shot advantage, and took a 13-5 lead into the break. The Hollins defense would stop the Spirits on each of their five, second half, shots en route to their largest margin of victory since 2011.

Hollins notes: 

  • Allie Helmbrecht scored 10 goals to go with a pair of assists. The senior came into the game with 31 goals, 58th nationally
  • After three goals, Madi Szurley is now second on the team with 10 scores
  • Emma Wilson made seven saves in picking up her third straight win in net
  • The current three game win streak is the most for Hollins since April 16, 2011

Salem notes:

  • Teia Horton and Hope Morrison each scored twice for the Spirits
  • Hannah Ostuland recorded 21 saves in goal
  • Salem was out-shot 39-12 and committed 20 turnovers 

What's next: Hollins will take it's three game win streak to Sweet Briar for a matchup with their arch rivals on Wednesday afternoon.
