Bridgewater, VA - For the first time after the turn of the calendar, the Hollins swim team was in the poll against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition. Bridgewater College would host Hollins and Emory & Henry in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon. Considering the long layoff, Hollins recorded several impressive swims as the deep rosters of their conference rivals topped the green and gold.
Maya Schattgen came back from break with one of her best meets. The sophomore finished runner-up in the 100 Backstroke, beating the third place swimmer by 3.5 seconds. Later in the meet, Schattgen garnered third place points in 200 Backstroke. In the 100 Butterfly, Maya finished just ahead of teammates Alexandra Sanchez and Debra Henke.
Henke posted a fourth in the 50 Freestyle, finishing just .04 seconds out of third and .50 out of second. In the 100 Breaststroke, Henke bested Kelsey Jones of Emory & Henry by .10 seconds to secure 4th place points. Sanchez tried to steal the 200 Freestyle by breaking away at the midway point, holding on for another solid fourth place finish.
Hollins will look to get back to her winning ways next week with a trip to North Carolina. Hollins will travel on Friday to face Greensboro and Guilford in a tri-meet.
