Roanoke, VA - For the final time this regular season, the Hollins University swim team was in action. Hollins welcomed Ferrum College for a dual meet on Saturday afternoon and it marked the final competitive swim in advance of the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships. Hollins won eight of the 11 events to wrap up the regular season with a dominating performance, 90-67.
The meet started off on a sour note for the home team as the 200 Medley Relay squad was forced to surrender first place points due to a disqualification. However, Hollins would leave no doubt in the Panthers minds as they won seven of the nine individual events. Alexandra Sanchez paced Hollins with a pair of event victories. The first-year enjoyed a four and a half second win in the 200 Freestyle and then came back later to claim a first place finish in the 200 Butterfly. Sanchez would also team with Dani Raymond, Debra Henke, and Maya Schattgen to secure another win in the, meet ending, 400 Freestyle Relay.
Schattgen joined her teammate with a pair of wins. The sophomore won the 50 Freestyle and the 200 Backstroke by a combined 19 seconds. Raymond once again posted a strong showing in the distance events. After finishing runner-up in the 1650 Freestyle, Raymond brought home first place points in the 500 Freestyle. Henke registered a win in the 400 Individual Medley while finishing runner-up to Sanchez in the Butterfly. For the second time in as many days, Lucy Manjikian paced the field in the 100 Breaststroke.
Hollins will now turn her attention to the ODAC Championships. The three day meet will take place February 10-12.
