Greensboro, NC - After positioning themselves in fifth after the first day of the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swim Championships, Hollins looked to solidify their position on day two. Two relays and five individual events would be decided on Saturday. Hollins placed six different individuals in the final heats and pulled away from their arch rivals from Sweet Briar heading into the final day.
The events got started with the 200 Medley Relay and Hollins began to show that they weren't going to give up their spot with a fifth place finish. The team of Debra Henke, Lucy Manjikian, Alexandra Sanchez, and Maya Schattgen finished five seconds clear of the second half of the conference.
Henke would then return to compete in the finals of the 400 Individual Medley. The sophomore would best yesterday's 14th place effort in the 200 IM to finish 12th with a time of 5:27.44. In the 100 Butterfly, Schattgen would post her best individual finish of the weekend. Maya secured a top 10 by eight seconds when she posted a time of 1:06.03. Later in the night she would make a return to the pool in the 100 Backstroke, securing 14th place points. Next up was the second of three finals swims on the night for Manjikian. Lucy earned a spot in the final heat of the 100 Breaststroke and finished 14th. The 200 Freestyle saw Hollins place three swimmers in the final. Sanchez would secure Hollins best individual finish thus far by placing eighth. Dani Raymond would place 12th and Kaleigh DePetro would give Hollins a third swimmer in the event, finishing 16th.
To close out the night Hollins would send out the team of Raymond, Manjikian, DePetro, and Betzy Liriano in the 800 Freestyle Relay. The group would mount a late rally that fell just seconds from once again claiming a top five finish.
The third and final day of the championship meet will get started on Sunday morning with the finals getting started at 6pm.
