Forest, VA: The 2018-19 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Swimming Preseason Poll was released on Thursday afternoon. Hollins was picked sixth in the 12 team poll.
Eleven-time defending conference champion Washington and Lee University stands atop the ODAC Women's Swimming Coaches' Poll, picking up 121 points including 11 first place votes in the league's annual survey. Randolph-Macon College sits second with 109 points, while Roanoke College breaks into the top-three with 95 tallies including the remaining top nod as the Maroons embark on their second season of competition.
Hollins, as voted on by the league's coaches, was picked to finish in the top half of the conference once again. The positioning going into the 2018-19 season is the identical finish, sixth, that the team posted last year at the 2017-18 ODAC Swim Championships.
The Green and Gold will return a quartet of swimmers that all earned berths in the final heats in last season's championship meet. The group will be led by senior Maya Schattgen who will be looking to continue lowering her times in hopes of earning a cut to the 2019 NCAA National Swim Championships. Joining Schattgen will be Hanna DeVarona and Emily Miehlke, the trio were members of the record breaking relay teams from a season ago. The fourth returner, Molly Sullivan, will provide a solid core of veterans that will welcome four newcomers to the team in 2018-19.
Hollins will have not have to wait long to see where they stand in the ODAC as the team will travel to Lexington this Saturday to compete in the 2018 ODAC Relays. The relay meet will be hosted by Washington and Lee.
