Hollins completed a clean sweep (3-0) in their final meet of the regular season

The event: Swimming - Hollins Quad-Meet vs. Guilford, Randolph, and Va. Wesleyan (Roanoke, VA)

The lead: The final meet of the 2018-19 regular season took place in Hollins home pool on Saturday afternoon. It was senior day for Hollins swimmer Maya Schattgen as the Green and Gold welcomed fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) members Guilford, Randolph, and Virginia Wesleyan for a quad-meet.

The result: Hollins 107 - Guilford 33, Hollins 110 - Randolph 38, Hollins 111 - Va. Wesleyan 46

How it happened: Hollins sent out an exhibition team in the opening event of the afternoon, the 200 Medley Relay, allowing Randolph and Virginia Wesleyan each an early lead. However, the home team would sweep (9-0) the individual events to complete the ODAC sweep. The final event of the meet, the 800 Freestyle Relay, Hollins took aim at the school record of 8:48.17. The freestyle quartet won the event but couldn't break the record when they posted a time of 8:56.05.

Hollins notes:

  • Schattgen just out-touched a Guilford swimmer to win the 50 Freestyle then came back to finish first in the 100 Butterfly and third in the 100 Freestyle
  • Molly Sullivan, 1000 Freestyle and 200 Individual Medley, Emily Miehlke, 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, and Hanna DeVarona, 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, each won two events
  • In the 500 Freestyle, Summer Jaime made it a clean sweep when she paced the field

What's next: Hollins will begin training for the, end of season, 2019 ODAC Swim Championships. The championship meet will be held in Greensboro on February 15-17.
