Roanoke, VA - After falling to Lynchburg College in their season and home debut on Wednesday afternoon, the Hollins tennis team looked to even her record when they took on Guilford College. The Quakers made the trip from Greensboro with the winner of the match picking up their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory of the season.
In doubles action, Hollins got off to a great start, earning a sweep and taking a 3-0 advantage. Htet Myat San and Jhovanna Salmeron picked up their first win of the season at #1 doubles as did the #2 doubles team of Amelia Verkerk and Sarah Jordan Snoddy. The Quakers were short-handed on the afternoon and had to forfeit the point at #3 doubles.
Verkerk and San each earned a second point in singles competition. San cruised, 6-0 and 6-0, at #4 doubles while Verkerk earned a win at #3, 6-3 and 6-1. First-year Kateri Johnson made it 2-2 on the young season when she won for the second time this week at #5 singles, 6-0 and 6-0.
Hollins will take her 1-1 record into Tuesday's match with ODAC and national power Washington and Lee. The match with the Generals is scheduled to start at 4:00pm at the Batten Tennis Center on the Hollins campus.
