Lexington, VA - Wednesday ushered in the start of the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Tennis Tournament. Hollins kicked off the tournament as the #8 seed and took the short trip north to face the regular season champion and #1 seeded Generals of Washington and Lee.
The afternoon got started with the trifecta of doubles matches that saw the home team take an early advantage when they swept Hollins in each of the matchups. As accordance to conference rules, the match would be stopped once one of the teams claimed the necessary wins, five, to earn the victory. The Generals would need to win just two of the remaining matches to earn a berth in the semifinals. At the #2 spot, Tessa Hill claimed the fourth win for Washington and Lee. With the match all but decided, W&L claimed the victory with a straight sets win at #6.
Despite falling in the quarterfinals, Hollins experienced an extremely successful season. In the preseason ODAC Women's Tennis poll, Hollins was selected at the bottom of the 12 team league. However, the young team proved the critics wrong by finishing eighth and qualifying for the conference tournament. The deep roster should return in the fall virtually in tact, losing just one senior, Htet Myat San.
