Event: Tennis - Ferrum at Hollins (Roanoke, VA)
The lead: For the second time on a busy Sunday, the Hollins tennis team was hosting and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent. After falling to Virginia Wesleyan in the morning, Hollins returned to host the Panthers of Ferrum College in the evening.
The result: Ferrum 5-0
How it happened: After falling at #1 and #3 doubles by identical scores, the #2 duo of Sarah Jordan Snoddy and Valerie Sargeant found themselves in a 7-2 hole. The first time doubles partners rallied to make it 7-6 before three perfect shots by Alex Dixon closed out the doubles matches with Ferrum enjoying a 3-0 advantage. The first three singles matches were close with the two teams enjoying a lead in one and a third tied. However, due to the fact that each team was playing it's second match of the day, the visiting Panthers picked up the needed five points with wins at #4 and #6 singles.
- Snoddy took the first set at #3 singles and was tied, 1-1, in the second when the match reached decision
- Kateri Johnson was engaged in an even dual at #1 singles with Morgan Scott
- The #3 doubles team of Anna Holland and Elizabeth Eubank won the first game of their collegiate careers
What's next: Hollins will play host to Bridgewater College on Tuesday afternoon. The match with the Eagles is scheduled to start at 4:00pm.
