Event: Tennis - Hollins at Averett (Danville, VA)

The lead: For only the second time this spring, the Hollins tennis team went on the road in search of a non-conference victory. A trip to Averett was on tap for Thursday afternoon. The road match with the Cougars was just the second in their first five matches.

The result: Averett 9-0

How it happened: The home-standing Cougars took all three doubles matches. In singles play, Averett continued to control the match as the home team cruised to in five of the six individual match ups. The #2 match went deep into the second set before Averrett won the frame, 6-4, and took the match with a 9-0 score.

Hollins notes:

  • In the best match of the event, #2 singles, Valerie Sargeant dropped the first set, 2-6, before rallying in the second, but eventually fell, 6-4
  • Sargeant teamed with Sarah Jordan Snoddy at #2 doubles, posting Hollins best tandem finish
  • At #6 singles, Alexis Morring posted the best finish of her first-year campaign

What's next: Hollins will wrap up the month of March, in advance of Spring Break, with four straight home matches. The four game home stand is scheduled to start on Friday with a visit from Randolph College.
