Event: Tennis - Hollins at Mary Baldwin (Staunton, Va.)

The lead: In a rare, late season, non-conference match, Hollins traveled to face Mary Baldwin on Wednesday afternoon. The Green and Gold looked for her second straight win against outside Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition.

The result: Hollins 6-2

How it happened: After splitting at #1 and #2 doubles, Hollins would need to win a close match at the #3 spot to take the lead. The Hollins duo was able to pull away late for an 8-6 win and a 2-1 advantage. In singles play, Hollins would cruise at the top three spots to take the match.

Hollins notes:

  • Playing #1 singles and doubles, Kateri Johnson helped to put two points on the board, losing just two games
  • Johnson's partner Alexis Morring added another point with a come from behind win (5-7, 6-2, 10-6) at #5 singles
  • Elizabeth Eubank made it three players going 2-0 on the day with wins at #3 singles and doubles

What's next: Hollins is scheduled to host their arch rivals from Sweet Briar on Friday afternoon. However, with impending rain and storms in the match may have to be postponed. Check www.HollinsSports.com for any scheduling updates.
