Salem, VA - The Hollins University cross country team ran in the seven team, Maroon Classic on Saturday morning. The 5K event was hosted by Roanoke College and took place at Mowles Spring State Park in Salem.
Hollins posted her best finish of the season by placing third in a race that saw 52 different runners. Roanoke College easily won the event with Mary Baldwin finishing just four points ahead of Hollins. Ferrum finished seven points back in fourth while Averett rounded out the top five. Hollins made it three straight events this season where they finished ahead of the arch rivals from Sweet Briar, the Vixens finished 50 points behind Hollins in seventh.
Jhovanna Salmeron earned 11th place points by pacing Hollins for the third time this season. The junior posted a time of 23:04.30, finishing 23 seconds ahead of Randolph's Baylee Snead. Sarah Rubin added 17th place points with a 25:20.10 while Antonia Perez-Bravo and Allie Helmbrecht finished right behind one another to give Hollins four runners in the top 30.
In two weeks, Hollins will travel to Greensboro to compete in the Hagan Stone Classic.
