Greensboro, NC - The Hollins University cross country team traveled to the Greensboro area on Saturday where they were competing at the Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic. The event was held at the Hagan Stone Park over a 5K course. The all day event featured over 1,700 runners in various levels of competition. Hollins competed in a field of 54 runners representing nine different, NCAA DIII, institutions.
Hollins finished in fourth place as a team, one position behind Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Guilford College. Jhovanna Salmeron posted a time of 22:31.00 to place ninth and secure seventh place points for her team. Salmeron posted the 26th fasted time of the day for all Divisions (I, II, and III). Sarah Rubin secured 18th place points with a time of 23:54.90, finishing 10 seconds clear of a Guilford College runner. Antonia Perez-Bravo was once again third for Hollins with a time of 24:47.36. Salmeron (over 30 seconds), Rubin (over 35 seconds), and Perez-Bravo (over 1:10) bested their 5K times from two weeks ago. Meagan Rioux and Levene LeBlanc, competing for the first time this season, rounded out the top five for Hollins.
The cross country team will have one more regular season event before the 2016 ODAC Cross Country Championships. Hollins will travel to Gettysburg, PA on October 15th.
