Event: Cross country - Hollins at the 2018 ODAC Championships (Winchester, VA)
The lead: 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Cross Country Championships were held in Winchester on Saturday morning. The 6K event was hosted by Shenandoah and featured 12 conference teams racing for the title.
- Washington and Lee
- Eastern Mennonite
- Emory & Henry
- Virginia Wesleyan
- Sweet Briar
How it happened: Back in early September, the ODAC released the 2018 Women's Cross Country preseason poll and Washington and Lee was picked to win the conference crown. The Generals did just that on Saturday with an average time of 23:13 over the 6K course at Kernstown Battlefield. The Championship results held true to the preseason rankings as the top five finishers were in the exact, predicted, order. Hollins was picked 12th coming into the season and on the back of a strong effort, the Green and Gold placed 9th in the 12 team field.
- As has been the case all season, first-year Evelyn Foster paced Hollins with a time of 27:13.2, finishing in the top half of the 93 runner field. Her time was three seconds better than her effort over the same course on 9/22/18
- Francesca Reilly (28:09.4) bested her previous time by almost a minute while Maria Hatch (29:33.1) trimmed over two full minutes off her time in September
- Kacie Shifflett came in 4th for Hollins with Ursala Nelson rounding out the top five. Nelson made it four out of five runners to post better times than the ODAC preview meet
What's next: The Hollins runners wrapped up their 2018 season by excceding expectations and with a young roster, look to climb in the ODAC standings in 2019.
