The event: Basketball - Hollins at Wilson College (Chambersburg, PA)
The lead: After defeating Central Penn last night, the Hollins basketball team looked to make it two in a row on their end of year road trip through Pennsylvania. Hollins appeared to have defeated Wilson College on a buzzer beating three pointer, however, the officials got together after the wild finish and that's when things got really crazy.
The result: Wilson 56-55
How it happened: The game went back and forth all night. The road weary Hollins squad found themselves down two points with just three ticks left on the clock. After a timeout, the ball ended up in the hands of first-year guard Kayla Surles. As the time ran, Surles took a desperation three pointer and as the ball went through the hoop, the Hollins bench erupted. However, the buzzer never sounded and that's when the confusion set in. Hollins, having just picked up a big win on the road, celebrated as the officials got together and decided that there was still time on the clock. The time read .2 seconds and, since some of the Hollins bench had gone onto the floor, they were going to be accessed a technical foul. Wilson knocked down two free throws and stole the win, 56-55.
- Surles led with 17 points and five assists
- Sally Sroge netted 14 points in 38 minutes of play
- Sophomore Keyazia Taylor grabbed a game high 10 boards
- Kai Wyatt and Lindsey Purvis combined for 35 of the Phoenix 56 points
- Wilson enjoyed a 34-29 edge on the glass
- The free throw line was the difference as the Phoenix out-shot Hollins 21 to 2
What's next: Hollins will have a couple of weeks to recover form the crazy finish to 2018 before the start up play after the New Year. Hollins travels to Guilford College on January 2nd.
