ROANOKE, Va. - For more than a half hour, Hollins was playing a strong half of "bend don't break" defense.
Visiting Emory & Henry had some shots, but had put up a goose egg. But at the 32:59 mark of the first half, the defense broke just enough for the Wasps to put one in the back of the net. That would prove to be enough, however, as the E&H defense played their own game of tight defense as the Wasps downed Hollins 5-0 in a physical match at Marjorie T. Berkley Field.
The Hollins offense was able to break through for three shots, two by Madisen Charles and the other by Paige Russell, but couldn't find net as the loss dropped the Green and Gold to 4-11 overall and 1-8 in the ODAC.
In the loss, Kendra Rich had nine saves.
Hollins will wrap up their 2019 season on Saturday with a 2 pm home match against cross-town rival Roanoke.
