Hollins Seventh After Day One

Event: Swimming - Day One of 2019 ODAC Championships (Greensboro, NC)

The lead: The three day, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships got started on Friday night. Hollins traveled to Greensboro to challenge the 10 other ODAC schools at the championship meet. Two relay and three individual championship races were on the opening day schedule.

The result:

How it happened: The qualifying heats took place in the morning ahead of the fianls being contested on Friday evening. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Hollins qualified fourth to secure a spot in the top eight heat later that night. In the 50 Freestyle, Maya Schattgen posted a time of 25.59 to earn a spot in the championship heat. Hollins made the finals in a third event, the 400 Medley Relay by finishing eighth in the qualifier. 

Hollins in the Finals:

  • Emily Miehlke, Hanna DeVaronaand Molly Sullivan teamed with Schattgen to swim a time of 1:47.47 and claim sixth place points in the 200 Freestyle Relay
  • In the finals of the 50 Freestyle, Schattgen finished 16th overall with a time of 25.89
  • The final event of the session, the 400 Medley Relay, saw Miehlke, Sullivan, Jules Brelland Summer Jaime earn an eighth place finish

What's next: The preliminary and qualifying heats will take place tomorrow morning in advance of the finals of Day Two being contested on Saturday evening.
