Swimming Faces Strong Competition at Yellow-Jacket Invitational

ASHLAND, Va. - Before heading home for Thanksgiving break, the Hollins swim team had to detour through Ashland for the Yellow-Jacket Invitational.

Facing off against stout opponents from both Division II and Division III, the Green and Gold came out of the three-session weekend with a 12th place team finish. 

Saturday's Results

Molly Sullivan had a strong day, taking 24 seconds off her 500 free time while Hanna DeVarona knocked more eight seconds off her 200 IM. Alex Sanchez and Madeline Evangelista also clocked in under their seed times in the 50 free. 

Freshman Mattie Tindall, swimming in just her second collegiate meet, cut than 13 seconds off her 100 backstroke time, finishing in 1:44.27. Megan Bull also finished ahead of her seed time by almost three seconds. Jules Brell finished just two-tenths of a second behind her seed time in the 100 fly for a strong showing. 

The team of Sanchez, DeVarona, Emily Miehlke and Evangelista shaved more than two seconds off their 200 free relay time, touching the wall in 1:49.51. 

Sunday's Results

Miehlke just outtouched her seed time in the 100 free, finishing in under a minute. Jesslyn Hammond also recorded a season-best in the 100 free by almost three seconds. 

What's Next

Hollins will be out of action for Thanksgiving but will be back in the pool when they welcome Southern Virginia to Hollins on Dec. 7. The meet starts at 12 pm.
