Cross Country Runs Close to Home in Blacksburg

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Hollins cross country team took their talents to Blacksburg on Friday as they face some stiff competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational.

The top finisher for Hollins was sophomore Olivia Contri who crossed the finish line in 70th place with a time of 19:02.1.

Teammate and fellow sophomore Kacie Shifflett was the next finisher for Hollins completing the course in 19:35.1. Senior Francesca Reilly finished just behind Shifflett in 20:21.1. Junior Grace Davis crossed the finish line in 21:27.7 while freshman Carla James rounded out the scoring, finishing in 22:49.0. 

The team finished in 9th overall, just four points back of ODAC foe Ferrum.

The team title was won by ACC member Wake Forest and the individual title was won by Elise Wright of the Demon Deacons.

What's Next

Hollins will be back in action close to home next Saturday, Sept. 14, as they will be in Salem for the ODAC Preview. The race stars at 10:20 am.
